VIDEO: Open Letter [POEM] to Wendy Williams

E-mail Print PDF

You may have heard about the comments that Wendy Williams made in regard to Viola Davis' act of following her husband's advice to "...step into who your are"(Instyle.com).  She gave the public the privilege of viewing the natural tresses that had been hidden under wigs for so long (or at least for the camera).

I remember just a few weeks prior, photos surfaced of Mrs. Viola Davis in her natural glory.  My, were those photos amazing!  She is amazing! After hearing about the remarks made by Wendy Williams in response to Davis' red carpet act of self love and pride, I personally opted not to address the situation.  You see, negativity is something that I prefer to halt - not multiply.  So, if you're interested in her comments, you'll have to hunt those down on your own.

My good friend Camisha with her poetic self, sent me this beautiful poem that addresses the comments made by Wendy Williams about Viola Davis' beautiful and regal move to embrace her natural hair for such a wonderful event - The Oscars.

I share this video with you to focus on the positive aspects of natural hair, natural beauty and self love.  This also provokes quite a bit of thought.  Quite honestly, I was ready to light my incense and start snapping!  I digress...here is the video:

Pura Body Natural: Chocolate Hair Smoothie

After falling in love with this line's cupuacu butter, I thought it would only be right to give this chocolate hair smoothie a whirl!  I was a little reluctant because believe it or not, I am not a huge fan of chocolate.  When I think of chocolate in my hair, I immediately think 'Yuck' and 'I don't want my hair smelling like chocolate!'.  Well, this product did not let me down!

Fragrance

Contrary to what you may assume, this product does not reek chocolate.  It has a hint of chocolate with a creamy flair to it.

Jojoba Oil

Deriving from the seed of the jojoba plant, jojoba oil can be found in a number of natural skin and hair care products.  While it is called jojoba oil, it is actually a wax extracted from the seed of the jojoba plant.  The primary reason why it can be found in many hair and skin products is because of its uncanny molecular resemblance to human sebum.

In order to break down the benefits of jojoba oil, it is important to first define a few key terms:

Sebum: Sebum is the ‘natural oil’ that many in the natural hair community fight long and hard to preserve through the use of sulfate-free shampoo and a host or other hair care practices.  Produced by the sebaceous glands, this natural oil (or wax) is designed to coat and protect the hair (and skin) from damage or drying out.  Because of the natural twists and curves of natural hair, the sebum cannot travel the entire length of the hair shaft resulting in dryer hair and a less brilliant sheen.
