The Obsession

Can you spend an hour or more in beauty supply stores?  Do you have multiple subscriptions to or can't help but pick up the latest hair magazine?  Is your 'under the sink' storage area so full that you have a special product area for your impulse purchases?  It's offiicial - you're obsessed.

Home The Kitchen Calendula

Calendula

E-mail Print PDF

I was first introduced to this herb through the best darn fashion manicurist in the world - Ms. Angel Williams!  I inquired about natural remedies for my skin because I deal with this annoying breakout each and every summer. Ugh!  It is totally a killer for sandal season!

She told me about calendula and shared that it was in fact a healing herb.  Calendula is also great for wound healing and yields a soothing feeling for irritated skin.  The tea of calendula can be drank and is rumored to aid with bladder infections, menstrual cramps and even pink eye!

What is so beautiful about calendula is that it is actually a flower!  To know that your skin can be soothed and healed with the aid of a beautiful flower just feels right.

You have already read about my experience with the Kiss My Face moisturizer, however I have also had the experience of trying another product - The Magic Stick that contains this wonderful healing herb as a primary ingredient.

What about hair?

Similarly to the way calendula can heal or soothe dry skin, it can also condition (or hydrate) dry hair.  Many BoBeam hair teas are mixed with calendula and the conditioning properties of this herb are superb!

Sampling Poetisa's Palette

I must tell you that it always excites me to find goodies in my mailbox.  This product line is called Poetisa's Palette and prides itself on natural products for the hair and skin.

Before we go into the actual products, I would like to share my impression of the product delivery and more:

Packaging

I really like the small jars.  When it comes to natural products, it is a must that I be able to get every last drop out of the package.  Jars are good.  Natural products are usually not cheap!  Nothing should go to waste.  Great choice!

There was also a personal touch that I really enjoyed.  There was a post-card with instructions on how to use each product as well as warnings.  For example, you are advised not to use a specific product on the face.  I really enjoyed this personal touch.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
