| The salon consumes the entire first floor of an older home. Upon walking in, you will smell incense, oils or some other fragrant product permeating the hair. The salon is appropriately draped in earth tones and animal print - not the typical 'clinical' look of a salon. What else would you expect from a salon called 'Naturals'?! | |
Staff members consist of the owner, Chaunda 'Loc*Star' King, and her assistant who keeps her appointment book on lock-down ensuring clients are serviced at the desired time. There are a total of three stations with two being vacant as Chaunda is the only stylist at this time. With that being said, please don't assume anything; the Loc*Star has clients that travel to receive her services. When asked about additional stylists, Chaunda "...would like to have other natural hairstylists come on board".
Naturals offers a host of styling options for those kings and queens who have chosen to sport their natural tresses. Style option include, but are not limited to braids, cornrows, box braids, kinky twists, micro-braids, locs, loc repair and micro-locs. The most popular request is loc styling. What did you expect from the Loc*Star? When asked about this Chaunda says, "I think this is because I strive to show my clients that you can do so much with locs, matter of fact with natural hair period. There are no limitations when you sit in my chair."
In addition to natural haircare and styling, Naturals also offers makeup and Henna application. Are you shocked that a 'natural' salon offers makeup application? Why not?
I think people would be surprised that I offer makeup application. 'Why?', you say?...a lot of people think once you go natural you can't wear makeup. Not true. I believe that going natural is not a transition, but a transformation. You have to own being natural. I always tell my clients to get their eyebrows arched, put on some big earrings and get the lip gloss POPPING!..."

As promised, I have finally tested out a Jane Carter product - 
. Let me tell you, the experience was superb! I had two clients - one who wanted a roller set and the other who wanted a silk wrap. I used this product along with the conditioner on both clients. (The conditioner review will be next.)
