Goody: Elastic Bands

E-mail Print PDF

I have this secret vendetta against bobby pins.  Sure, they serve their purpose and I will use them if necessary, but I just don't like to use very many and avoid them whenever possible.

What I tend to use instead (especially for my locked, braided or twisted clients) are rubber bands.  Sure, we've been told that we should avoid them, but with minimal winding they work beautifully! The GOODY Elastic-Band keep the hair together and does not have be wound very tightly at all.  I love the fact that the rubber bands are offered in a variety of shapes and colors; including transparent.

Goody offers two versions of elastic bands (standard and ouchless), so check them out to see which you prefer.

Great uses for elastic bands

  • Gathering rather large twisted, braided or locked ponytails
  • Securing flat twists
  • Creating an interesting hanging pony or top knot
  • Colorful designs for youth
  • Securing beads and other hair adornments (possible, but not the best way...lol!)

So, the next time you reach for that bobby pin, toy with the idea of a rubber band instead.  It works for me!

Sampling Poetisa's Palette

I must tell you that it always excites me to find goodies in my mailbox.  This product line is called Poetisa's Palette and prides itself on natural products for the hair and skin.

Before we go into the actual products, I would like to share my impression of the product delivery and more:

Packaging

I really like the small jars.  When it comes to natural products, it is a must that I be able to get every last drop out of the package.  Jars are good.  Natural products are usually not cheap!  Nothing should go to waste.  Great choice!

There was also a personal touch that I really enjoyed.  There was a post-card with instructions on how to use each product as well as warnings.  For example, you are advised not to use a specific product on the face.  I really enjoyed this personal touch.

Phthalates

We are already aware that products should be labeled with the ingredients.  More and more you are probably noticing labels that read ________ FREE.  Phthalates (pronounced fal-ates) can easily fill one of these blanks.  That's right, we've got another chemical on our hands, folks!

What is it?
A chemical compound, phthalates, is also know as a plasticizer.  In the beauty world, this chemical compound can be found in nail polish, makeup (maintaining the color) and lotions (even spreading).  Phthalates are also responsible for making your fragrance last longer.
