The Cool Cap

E-mail Print PDF

I found out about this product online, thought it was cool (no pun intended) and tucked it away into memory.  Some time thereafter, the creator of this invention reached out to me via Twitter notifying me of The Cool Cap.

The Cool Cap boasts to keep your client cool under the dryer and cut dryer time in half.  So, the question is - did it work?  Well, I purchased one dozen cool caps and tested them on twist outs, flexi-rod sets (relaxed hair) and even locked hair.

Working with the caps

How difficult can a extra large shower cap be to use?  I had a hard time (at first).  The fact they they are packaged individually and held together with a loose rubber band made it very easy to use.  After watching the video on using the cap, I knew to removed the perforated lining for drying.  (The perforated lining is used for deep conditioning.) There was some extra 'baggage' going on.  My clients with glasses were able to keep the cap up with their glasses.  I later used a strip to keep the cap from falling over the clients' eyes.

After reviewing the literature again, I found that I could have slid the cap onto the entire hood of the dryer - not just the rim of the hood.  I'll be certain to try that next time.

Results

Overall, most clients saved 15 - 20 minutes of dryer time and did mention that they felt cooler under the dryer.  There were a few who were finished within 30 minutes; resulting in the advertised 50% decrease in dryer time.  I love to get my clients in and out and this really did help.

Investment

I can purchase a regular shower cap - one hundred or more at a time - for very little.  One dozen cool caps is approximately $25.00.  That's roughly $2.00 per cap.  While in the testing phase, I offered these as complimentary however going forward it is a definite service add-on.  Stylists, give it a try and decide how or if you'll include these into your service model.  Clients and salon consumers, ask your stylist about it or order some on your own and bring them along for a test run.

Taliah Waajid: Total Body Black Earth Shampoo

Now, I know you've seen me rant about not using shampoo on my own hair.  I use this product on my clients.  Shampoo and lather is expected when one visits the salon.  If I must shampoo, I prefer to use one that I know works and one that contains less harsh ingredients.  I have had nothing but positive outcomes from this shampoo.  Some of the comments were the hair feels extremely soft (prior to a conditioner being applied), the scalp felt clean and the fragrance is lovely!

I have used this shampoo on two clients - one with extremely dry scalp and another with a diagnosed scalp condition.  Both clients had rave reviews of this shampoo.  I typically use this shampoo along with the Taliah Waajid Enhancing Herbal Conditioner.
