I can remember being introduced to the hairpin in cosmetology class back in high school. Boy, did I think she was wasting her time teaching us about a hairpin. I thought it was a waste because 'we' used bobby pins! What is that loose hairpin going to do for 'our' hair!?
Well, after paying attention to what she was saying, I realized there is a true difference and a purpose for each regardless of your hair type. Its all about the style you are trying to achieve. If you are looking for a soft and free look that requires a bit of security, hairpins may be your answer!
Oh, and here is the other thing... Where you would use one bobby pin, you can actually use two hairpins in a criss-cross pattern to achieve a secure hold! Who knew!? I often go this route when I run out of bobby pins for my updo's. The thing about hairpins is that you have less likelihood of seeing that dent. You know what I'm talking about! The hairpin allows your hair to remain secure without so much of a dent.
These are also useful when working with styles that have a massive bun in the back or on top - securing the hair without the dent. Am I loyal to a brand? No. I usually purchase the large containers of hairpins or whatever is available at the time.

A few weekends ago I attended the 6th Annual BOCA - Soul Yoga Movement & Wellness Expo. There was so much that came out of that expo. In due time, I will definitely share!
This ingredient can be found in many of our hair and skincare products. Its primary function is to remove dirt, oil and buildup regardless of the surface. I say this because the same ingredient that we spread on our body surfaces is also used (in higher concentrations of course) in engine degreasers and floor cleaners! Can you imagine using the same chemical to clean your face/hair to clean your engine?!
