The Denman BrushAfter attending the Loving Her Fiercely event and participating in Chris-Tia Donaldson's presentation, I learned about the Denman Brush .  Chris-Tia spoke highly of this brush and then after that one of my Queens (Fatemah) made mention of this tool as well.  So, I had to try it out.

The Purchase

I'll be honest, the thought of brushing my natural hair did not appeal to me at all.  I repeat - AT ALL!  I just didn't get it.  Why would anyone brush those fragile coils?  I began to research the experiences of others and for the sake of my readers, I broke down and bought one.  I went to Sally's not once but, twice.  The first time I picked up the brush, looked at it, touched it and said NO WAY!  The brush has hard plastic bristles.  I just couldn't see it.

The next day I returned to the store and the brush was on sale.  I purchased the brush and let it sit for a few days before making the decision to give it a try.

The Brush

This is one sophisticated brush.  There are several brush types you can purchase and they are given a code.  Yes, a code - letter and number combination.  Now, that's special.  I actually purchased the D3 model. LOL!

The Experience

I was scared!  I barely comb my hair (only once per week after a co-wash), so to brush it kind of freaked me out a little bit.  Nonetheless, I did my normal cleanse, detangle and four braids.  I opted to saturate my tresses prior to using the brush.  This is a must!  The hair MUST be saturated with water before you even think about using this brush.  I also added a bit of Taliah Waajid's Healing Oyl for added [insert kissing noise here].

What a pleasant surprise!  I didn't lose any hair!  As my hair began to dry I began to lose hair, so I can't stress enough the importance of completely saturating the hair with water before using this brush.  It glided through my tresses and left me with the ringlets I miss so much.  I had a lot of shrinkage, but that is to be expected with my hair.  I'll be certain to use this tool when I want an ultra curly short-looking 'do'.  Check out the video!

If you're unsure feel free to peruse the website and check out the wide assortment of these special brushes.  So, give it a whirl and let us know how the Denman Brush works for you!

Burt's Bees: Natural Toothpaste

We have reviewed a number of dental hygiene products so far, but this one was the most edumacational. LOL!

I actually purchased this from Wal-mart and got a children's version for my son (that story later).  I purchased this goodness at my local Wal-mart and here's how the checkout process went:

Cashier: Is this toothpaste?!

Me: Yes

Cashier: Well, I sure hope it works!  They have some $0.99 toothpaste that works just fine.

And then we laugh.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
