Tea Tree OilTea Tree Oil is one of my favorite oils!  I had a client with a severe case of seborrheic dermitits.  If you are unaware, seborrheic dermitits is a condition that results in flaky, yet oily scales on the scalp.  This particular client was infected around the hair line with heavy build up in the crown area. When infants are infected with this condition, it is called cradle cap.

Needless to say, this condition took away from the set of Senegalese Twists she was wearing at the time.  I stumbled upon tea tree oil and decided to give it a shot.  As a natural antiseptic, I predicted that it would do the trick.  There were so many remedies that included tar and even beer to resolve this scalp irritation.  I chose tea tree oil as my first attempt.

On a routine shampoo, I decided to rid my client's scalp of the scaly residue and apply the tea tree oil to the scalp.  I advised her to take the oil with her and whenever she noticed build-up to use a warm wash-cloth to remove the debris and then follow-up with the tea tree oil; massaging it into the scalp.

When she returned two weeks later for her next shampoo, all flakes and scales were gone!  My client followed the instructions and the her scalp was clean as a whistle.

In addition to healing scalp irritations, tea tree oil can also be used as/for:

  • insect repellent
  • rashes
  • head lice
  • acne
  • cold sores
  • ingrown hairs
  • relief for tired muscles during a massage

Use

Apply to infected area and lightly massage into the scalp.  You may want to use a clean and warm wash cloth to cleanse the infected area first.

Investment

This 1.5 fl oz. container cost me $0.99 at a local beauty supply store.

Just wanted to say I actually use this exact TTO for my hair & it leaves such a great smell (I'm into my hair smelling good lol) & so soothing to the scalp. I actually alternate w/ putting this in my deep conditioning treatments. Its a "I Cannot Natrual Hair W/out" staple. ;-)

One exciting thing about the natural hair journey is that there are a number of ways to express yourself.  T-shirts are one way to get your point across (as if your hair were not enough).  I now own a total of four 'natural hair' t-shirts.

I received these t-shirts in the mail and wondered exactly how I would review them, so here goes...

The company

7evolution.  When I saw the name I was immediately intrigued.  I'm huge on numbers.  I absolutely love the way they broke down the meaning of the number 7 and evolution.  Here is what 7evolution is all about in a nutshell:

"Our main goal is to encourage the love of self, others and God through thought provoking, authentic and inspirational messages."

They create have their own collection of designs and will also create custom designs.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
