Curls: Goddess Curls

E-mail Print PDF

In one of the Weekly Webcam styles (Twisty Locs) I used Curls: Goddess Curl Gel to set my twists.  I wanted to try something different so I hopped on over to Target and snagged this goodness.  The thing I like about this product is the fact that it contains no parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, silicones or petrolatum oils.  It worked very well on my hair and did not have the crunchy effect of many gels.  Firm, but not so crunchy.

I actually tried the product on my free hair before twisting to see how or if it would define my curls and found the results to be just fine.  Mind you, it was a quick try because I was focused on twisting my hair.

Scent

From afar and while using the product, the scent is pretty lovely.  When I stuck my nose in the bottle (or almost in) my opinion changed.  The scent went from lovely afar to chemical-like up close.

Functionality

Again, it worked for the Twisty Locs style beautifully.  It gave me a nice hold and sheen without flaking or residue.  I have yet to try this on my free tresses.

Investment: Approximately $7.99

Tom's of Maine Natural Moisturizing Body Bar

I will admit that I am a procrastinator and somewhat of a poor planner.  I had to purchase this natural moisturizing body bar because I knew that I would not be able to make it to my beloved Trader Joe's for the soap that I love and would need to use the next day.  I went to a local grocery store and fortunately they had a natural care aisle.

I actually enjoy many of the Tom's of Maine products so I was drawn to that particular section.  After reading the label, I was intrigued and made the purchase.

Sniff

Lavender.  That is exactly what the box read and that was the predominant fragrance.  Lavender is known for its ability to relax.  What a lovely shower experience when you're a tad stressed!  This bar gave me an aromatherapy and cleansing session all in one.

Silicones

As I flip through one of my favorite hair magazines carefully reading each page and interview, I couldn't help but notice tips from a certain  hairstylist who will remain anonymous for the purposes of this article.

This particular hairstylist recommended using products with silicone to enhance shine and to protect the hair from heat damage.  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Well...kind of.  You see the truth is that products which contain this chemical polymer do in fact enhance shine, manageability as well as protect the hair from heat damage in a remarkable way.  This stylist knows how to get the job done!

Let's take a moment to think about silicone in general.  Hmmm...some of our kitchen appliances are made from silicone.  These are some of the most heat resistant pans and handle holders of our time.  Do you find a bit of irony in the fact that the same material we use to cook our food is being used to help us cook our hair?  Yes, you read it right.  Truth be told, the main ingredient that you will find in many of those heat-protectants, serums, and frizz control products is in fact silicone.
