Spectrum Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

This oil is fantastic! Being the closest fruit to the sun, the coconut has many benefits to our systems - inside and out.  Be sure to purchase the Organic Virgin (Unrefined) Coconut oil (not pictured here - be sure to look for the 'Virgin' variation).  You can purchase this at most grocers selling whole foods or a local Vitamin Shoppe.

Here are few ways in which you can use coconut oil:

Cooking

This is how the love affair began.  There is a bit of a debate about the consumption of dairy.  Is it healthy?  Why are humans the only to consume another animal's milk and/or mucus?  That discussion is for another day. I was attempting to minimize my dairy consumption and heard that coconut oil was a good substitute for butter.

Slice some fresh carrots and peppers of various colors.  Allow the coconut oil to melt (it won't take long) in the pan.  This oil has the ability to withstand high heat in an excellent way. (Remember, it is the closest fruit to the sun.)  Add a tablespoon of minced garlic and season to taste.  Allow all of these ingredients to saute in a pan for a few moments.  Yummy!  You'll notice a slight buttery-sweet flavor all without the dairy.

Hair

This sun fruit is so close to the protein of the hair in composition that it actually reduces protein loss - restoring damaged hair.  This is the ultimate conditioner/protein treatment!  Like olive oil, coconut oil can penetrate the hair shaft completely.  It is also rumored to promote hair growth.

Skin

Do you suffer from eczema?  Informal surveys confirm that eczema outbreaks are at an all time high this season.  If you can catch the eczema outbreak before it becomes inflamed, this oil works marvelously!  I am a living testimony of this fact.  Having a mild outbreak of eczema, I decided to use coconut oil and within the week the eczema was gone!  This certainly beats those steroid creams prescribed by your doctor.  This also makes an excellent massage oil as well.

I have gotten so into it that I slather this stuff all over my 'bawdy' [in my Martin Lawrence voice] instead of using lotion.  I love how the coconut oil begins as a solid, but melts with your body heat.  How beautiful is that?! While it may leave the skin feeling greasy, it will most definitely be absorbed as the day progresses (and relatively quickly).

Without going to deep, just realize that this sun food grows the closest to the sun.  The overall health benefits are amazing.

Investment: Approximately $10.00

Ingredients: Naturally unrefined expeller pressed virgin organic coconut oil.

Thank you for sharing this about coconut oil. Just saw a segment on Dr. Oz. In the past, you always heard about how bad coconut oil was for you, but now, it's the opposite. Dr. Oz also said how it heals ulcers (I don't have them, but thought I'd share this). He said take one tablespoon per day!
One question on using it as a conditioner ... how does it rinse out? Thank you!

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for the comment! Coconut oil is one of the few oils that can be absorbed by the hair shaft completely. Consider it a leave-in conditioner that can be rinsed with good 'ol water. If you do experience 'greasiness' you can use apple cider vinegar to get rid of any residue. Apple cider vinegar serves as a natural clarifying rinse. Not the best smelling stuff, but it works.

I am just looking for ways to ingest the coconut oil. I hate the taste of coconut and I gag on it when I try to swallow it. How am I going to get 2 tblespoon per day. Any suggestions?

Coconut has such a distinct flavor that it would be difficult to mask. Have you tried to saute minced garlic in the coconut oil? It delivers a buttery sweet flavor.

If the sweet is what you despise though...hmmm...have you tried including it in for a blended breakfast drink?

I wish I had a tried and true answer for you. Please let me know what you find...

I take 2 tbsp every day, but had to work up to eating it straight off the spoon. Try it on Multi-grain Toast! It makes an excellent spread; and gives it a very unique flavor. I have also put a little in a cup and dipped banana/pineapple slices.

I cant eat it off the spoon either but I enjoy the light flavor when used for cooking. I add it to my smoothie's & dont taste it at all. Ive been using it on my skin & hair w/ fantastic benefits & my skin is normally sensitive & pron to breakouts but I havent had any problems! I am also now trying it on my dogs for allergies, hot spots & ear issues. I noticed immediate results & Im a groomer so Ive tried everything, research everything & Im rarely impressed! I have 2 dogs w/ issues & so far Im seeing big improvements after just few days!
