It is certainly my pleasure to introduce you to this lovely woman and her business. She and I have a history and no matter the season, our zodiac is always on the same frequency. I can remember back in the day when this born fashionista would always have a tip or five when it came to our outfits. She's the friend any woman would love to have. She always has an option in her wardrobe. As a matter of fact, I think I might have a shrug (yes, it's been awhile) that belongs to her. LOL! Oh, and one last thing you'll love...she gives it to you straight! Sugar-coating is not an option for this woman and you must respect it!
What's a great hairstyle without an outfit to match!? Speaking of great hairstyles...peep her new 'do'! YOWZERS!!!! Meet Kerry Yanique of Champagne Dreams...
What prompted you to create Champagne Dreams?
I started Champagne Dreams because I realized how hard it is for a lot of people to find deals or they may have been under the impression that you have to max out your credit card in order to look good and that’s just not the case.
How long have you been blogging?
A year this past August. We just finished celebrating our 1 year blogiversary
Tell us a little more about Champagne Dreams.
Champagne Dreams is a fashion consulting site I started. We consult our customers on dressing for less. Our tagline is “Step in Style, Stay in Budget.” Not only do we just offer consulting but we help you re-create your wardrobe if you’re ready for a new look. We take you out to all fairly priced stores to re-stock on your basics. We also have the lowest consultation and personal shopping rates out there because we would be hypocrites if our rates weren’t “champagne dreams” friendly ;-)
How did you come up with the name?
When I was a kid I loved watching Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous and Robin Leach’s most used phrase was “wishing you Champagne Dreams and Caviar Wishes”. Every little girl has the dreams of being rich and famous one day, reality is you just might not get there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look just as fabulous!
How did you know that fashion was your thing?
When my mother enrolled me in Barbizon Modeling School at 7 yrs old. After that everything I wanted to be or do involved fashion!
Who are your top 3 favorite designers? Why?
- Chanel- because she, herself, was fabulous and started from being a poor seamstress to becoming a fashion house Legend. Her style is so classic that it will never die.
- Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B line because it’s young and funky, I would love her to design a lower priced line, which brings me to my
- Rachel Roy-she was never on my radar, but I love her lower end line and I have a special appreciation for high-end designers that realize there is a value when you do a lower priced line.
Did you ever try to indulge in any other professions? How did that work out?
Well before I moved to NY, I wasn’t really heavily involved in the fashion industry. Not much opportunity in VA for that, so yeah I had my odd jobs. But the moment I moved to NY, I made sure a got my foot in the door. It wasn’t easy and I had to live off of Ramen Noodles for awhile, but it’s always worth it when it’s your dream you’re working towards living.
Advice to budding entrepreneurs?
My advice to entrepreneurs, make sure you truly want this. Make sure you want to live and breathe it because it’s a lot of sweat and tears, and believe me there are still tears, but you cannot give up!!! Building your own business is a marathon, not a sprint. Have patience, pray, and put the work in and your business will grow. Always have faith and never compare yourself to the path of others, it will impede your own process!
I understand you have a partner in crime. Tell us about Jae.
Yes! Jae London! Jae London is my partner from London and she has been giving her fashion tips from the UK, but as of last week, she has moved over here, so we will be a force to be reckoned with. We have a lot in store for Champagne Dreams, so look out for us!
Pop Quiz: I have one pair of jeans (dark rinse), a pair of ballerina flats and a fitted long sleeve shirt. My accessories include a pair of studs, one scarf and a long necklace. What can I do to look like a true Champagne Dreamer?
Well whether you’re a Champagne Dreamer or not depends on the price. So if you were able to put this outfit together without breaking your pockets, then you are a True Champagne Dreamer! *a little tidbit* if you are rocking flats with your jeans, make sure they’re skinny jeans with a tapered leg, or if they’re straight leg, roll them up a bit. Nothing worse than a flared leg jean with ballerina flats, rock your boots and heels for that.
When it comes to fashion, what is your biggest pet peeve?
Not being conscious of your body!! Watch the “muffin top” when wearing jeans. Know you’re size, even if you feel your size is too large, that’s ok because wearing your ACTUAL size is a lot better than squeezing into jeans too small and create all of that extra spillage in the mid-section, hence the term “muffin top”.
Five must haves for the fall - men and women?
Women: camel and greys are the new black, fur or faux-fur accessories, over-the-knee boots, animal prints especially leopard!, and plaids.
Men: Leather biker jacket, plaid tie, 3 piece suits, vests to just wear as a separate (w/o suit), and lace up boots.
Do you offer any other services?
We offer consultation by hr. increments, personal shopping for special events, wardrobe evaluation and makeover. We also offer package pricing. We service outside of the NY area as well and we consult both men and women. No discrimination (LOL).
I actually had the pleasure of becoming a patron of Champagne Dreams. Check out how she mastered my 'Rock Star' look. Ow! She takes into consideration your own personal style and works her magic. I'll tell you, we were both about to pass out when it was time for accessories. Sheeeeeesh!
Great hair, great outfit, nails on point = All Tressed Up! POW! Umm yeah, fro-hawk courtesy of All Tressed Up (had to do it...lol!).
