LaFarn BurtonPlease allow me to introduce to you a woman and business that is near and dear to my heart, Mrs. LaFarn Burton, visionary and founder of LB Beauty & Training Academy.  Mrs. LB, as she is affectionately known, is a woman that is dedicated to helping aspiring beauty service providers and active beauty service providers realize their dream of entrepreneurship.  She is a woman with power, passion, pride and dignity.

Upon first meeting her there was an immediate connection.  I love this woman. She is my mentor, friend and like another mother to me.  Remember how Benita Batrell (from in Living Color) would spaz out when someone said something about Ms. Jenkins?  Well that's how I feel about this woman!  Nobody better not say nothing bad about Mrs. LB!  Let's find out why...

Q: What led you to start LB Beauty & Training Academy?
A: During a life changing storm, I was led by angels directing my steps - pulling me from depression, feeding me understanding, nourishing my soul, and loving me.  I walked past my successes into an unpleasant experience and into a vision.  With the love and support from my loving husband, Mr. Norman Burton, I used my education, experiences, talents, business skills and faith to birth LB Beauty and Training Academy in 2000 after returning from a two-week visit to South Africa.

Q: Tell me more about the academy.
A: LB Academy is a place where we support and encourage one another - a place where each person matters.  The Academy has a team of talented and loyal associates and partners.  Norman has developed the education program into a successful learning environment and trained others to become successful educators.  The team is awesome!  LB Beauty and Training Academy is built on LOVE - Love of God, Love for Life, Love for Communities, Love for Others, Love of Self, Love of Education and Experiences, and Love for Success.

Q: What programs do you offer at the academy?
A: We offer programs and classes in cosmetology, nails, braiding, barbering, tattoo as well as other classes to help active stylists continue their education and learn new skills.  For specifics, visit the website.

Q: Are there any new developments for you and your business?
A: I have been creating a non-profit business, LB Training, that will help establish and promote other businesses within the beauty industry.  It is my vision that LB Training will be successful in helping others learn how to develop a business; how to start and manage a business; develop problem solving skills; learn the art of partnership; and network for success.

Q: What kind of impact do you think you have on the community?
A: Mirroring myself, others say to me, "You care.", "You give back.", "You make a difference.", "You inspire hope.", "You are a blessing.", "You are fair.", "You are love."

Trader Joe's Oatmeal & Honey Soap

Trader Joe's Oatmeal & Honey SoapNot too long ago, I made my very first trip to Trader Joe's.  For those of you who are unaware, Trader Joe's is a little market that has a niche of offering a selection of products that make it easier for folks with diet restrictions to shop (i.e., vegetarians, low sodium diets, gluten free products, vegans, etc.) - not to mention excellent prices!  I normally purchase Dove for Sensitive Skin, however since beginning my ingredients journey, I have become more conscious of what I am putting on my body and/or allowing my system to absorb.  I found out that Dove, even the sensitive skin rendition, contains SLS.  Let me tell you, it was a sad day for me when I discovered that fact.

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
