Twas the night before straightening and all through the house, daydreaming of shrinkage and the length soon to come out. Yeah, yeah..okay. So, I originally planned to straighten my hair earlier, but I looked out of the window and what did I see...glistening wet pavement staring at me! (I don't know why I'm feeling so festive!) Anywhoo!
So, I had to postpone my great idea!
This is what it looks like when you've been prepping for a straightening session and you find out its raining outside. Booooo!
Preparation
I washed my hair and conditioned it with LaVida Given by Nature's Ginger Juice and Berries. My hair eats this stuff! In the beginning the hair feels a bit greasy, but as the day goes on, you'll notice less 'grease' and more plump hair. My individual strands felt fatter (more coarse). This is my new curl definition solution as well.
My hair was separated into four sections and detangled. I allowed it to air dry for the better part of the day.
You can see the results after I improvised and opted to go with an emergency twist out. Yay!
Heat Protectant
I opted to go with grapeseed oil this time around. Realizing that most heat protectants contain silicone, I just didn't feel like dealing with it. Let me tell you that I loved the results! The first day it was a little greasy, but around day two, my hair felt lighter and just the way I like it. Prior to flat-ironing each section, I applied a bit of grapseed oil to the entire section, combed through and began to part for flat-ironing.

Of course I used the BaByliss Pro flat iron that I love so much to apply the heat. Please keep in mind that I do this 1 - 2 times per year. Not a huge fan because heat damage is not cute! Straightening the hair is an option for the natural-haired diva, but should be executed with caution. Please remember that heat can cause irreversible damage. Moderation is key.
I'll be sure to keep you posted on the things I do with this straight hair in a few weekly webcam posts. Stay tuned...
