My Loc Transitioning Journey: Months 7- 10

E-mail Print PDF

Wow!  Have I really been slipping that long?  The answer is clearly 'Yes'.  Not only am I going through a loc transition, but also a life transition.  When the decision was made to enter this hair transition, I had not clue that all of this (possibly shared at a later date) would be taking place - all within the year.  I am grateful for the decision and for all of the things that have taken place thus far.

So, enough of the leading statements without the full story, right?  Let's get on to the hair!

August

Well, let's just say that August was a major month.  That's right!  Fuzzy and Free was how it was going down in August.  Keep in mind, I would wash my hair, but just would not twist it.  If you peeped the August Sassy Saturday recap, you'll notice the 'turban'.  Yeah, no twisting at all.  LOL!

September

I almost went two months without twisting this hair and then a beautiful somebody volunteered to twist and style it for me.  haven't had anyone do my hair in a long time!  Let me just tell you that I fell slam asleep in the chair.  Man, was this a treat!  Thank you so much Latessa for doing my hair!  If you would like to catch a nap in the chair while getting your locks re-twisted, feel free to check her out at Serenity Room Salon & Spa.

Simone's Loc Transitioning Journey: Mission Complete!

E-mail Print PDF

Well!  I am elated to share with you that after nearly two years of transitioning to locs via kinky twists, my girl Simone has decided to let them go! As a woman obsessed with length we went through a number of chats, e-mails and things before coming to this place.  I was excited because this is such a big deal for us!  Yes, I said 'us'! LOL!

I've known this woman for some years and always knew her to wear the ponytails and braids - and that was really it (with less than five exceptions).  For this queen to make the decision to rock her natural hair was amazing!  I love the new look, Mone!!!  Love it!

My Loc Transitioning Journey - 5 Months...

E-mail Print PDF

Twist Date: June 23, 2012

So, the five month mark has come and gone.  I get lazier and lazier by the month.  Shame!  I went from re-twisting on the third of the month to the twenty-third.  Geez.  Oh well!

After having a conversation with my Bestest about natural hair options, she asked me about CurlFormers.  I told her that I have in fact tried them on a client (with relaxed hair), but never on myself or another naturalista.  This conversation presented a challenge.

There I was waiting on a client to arrive and with the spare moments, I decide to begin the process of inserting CurlFormers.  Using the tool, I was able to include three locks at a time.

I found this to be a bit difficult to execute on myself.  Time and time again the tool would detach leaving half of the rod in the CurlFormer.  I attribute this to me doing it myself.  I ended up getting frustrated and accidentally broke the tool!  So, now what?

I will say that the CurlFormers that I used did in fact yield great results.  I personally, would rather try these on someone else.  Check out the results (image on far right) on the few that were able to be set on the CurlFormers!

My Loc Transitioning Journey - 4 Months Down!

E-mail Print PDF

Twist Date: May 14, 2012

The fourth month mark, already?  Wow, time is really moving!!  These quasi-locks of mine are doing their thing, too!  I'm so happy about my decision, yall!

This go around I wanted to play with setting my hair.  Initially, I was thinking rods.  After some thought, I was torn between rods and bantu knots.  If you've been following the blog for awhile, perhaps you remember that Twisty Locs style?  Well, bantu knots were used for that and I figured why not?!

My Loc Transitioning Journey - Three Months In

E-mail Print PDF

Yes, a digital detox was necessary, yall!  Between blogging, teaching computer topics, teaching online and of course servicing my clients your girl has been technologically drained.  Now that the World Natural Hair Show is behind us, I am revived with tons of topics to bring your way!  There was so much 'blogability' (if that is a word) at that show!  I'm so excited.

Well, prior to the show, I did in fact retwist my hair.  The date was April 11, 2012.  I'm noticing more and more time go by in between twisting and I'm okay with that.  Don't judge me...LOL!

Instead of running down the products that I used, I will let you know that nothing has changed.  I'm still using the exact same two products.

This time, I opted for a pulled back style.  While I love the swing action that I now have, but sometimes the hair in my face gets on my nerves.  This is especially true when I am actively servicing my clients.  It is not uncommon for me to place a clip in my hair to get it out of the way.

I'll be twisting my hair again this week and I'm honestly thinking about setting it.  We shall see...

Grapeseed Oil

When it comes to natural beauty this natural oil has many benefits.

Health Benefits

According to a study University of Maryland report, grapeseed oil has been proven to lower cholesterol and high blood pressure.  In addition the extract has inhibited the growth of cancer cells (in test tubes only).

If you have time to relax a local massage table, this may be the oil you want to request as it decreases stress in the body.  Because it comes from grapes, you can definitely consume this oil.  This oil is naturally low in cholesterol and due to its actual vitamin and mineral content, can actually be a safe alternative.
