Queen of the Week: Terez

E-mail Print PDF

Unlike many of the other Queens you have seen featured on All Tressed Up, this queen was a virtual find.  You see, I was writing an article about Sisterlocks™ for my Examiner column and realized that a picture is worth a thousand words.  I find that when explaining Sisterlocks™, this is especially true.  While searching YouTube, I found a wonderful Sisterlocks™ journey video diary created by none other than Terez, our most recent Queen of the Week.  Let's get to know her.

Who does your hair?

I'm proud to say that I now do my own hair.  I officially took the Sisterlocks™ Retightening Class last month and retightened my hair for the first time one month ago.  Also, I do all of my own styles.  I love to search the Internet for inspiration and ideas.

What are your three favorite products and why?

Products... That shouldn't be a hard question.  But it is because since I got Sisterlocks™ last year, I stopped using hair care products.  Right now, all that I use is the Sisterlocks™ Salon Shampoo.  That is my only official product.  It gets my hair clean, and that's about it.

Please describe your hair routine.

I spritz my hair with water daily.  I wash weekly with the Sisterlocks™ Salon Shampoo.  I still have to braid and band because my ends are super curly and open.  I tend to style my hair a day or two after I wash and play with the style until my next shampooing.

What is your favorite quote of the moment?

Luke 12:15 - "Even when a person has an abundance his life does not result from the things he possesses."

That verse keeps what I do in perspective.

Tell us more about why you chose Sisterlocks™...

I chose Sisterlocks™ because I needed a change.  I had worn my natural hair texture for over five years.  During that time, I tried every natural hair style I could come up with.  But I fell into a routine of doing two strand twists in the winter and an afro puff in the summer.  I once told my husband that I wished I could wear two strand twists all of the time.  Later that day, I realized that what I really wanted was locs.  I wanted to see my growth, rather than see my hair shrink as it grew.  It was a shocking revelation because I protested I would never get locs because I couldn't comb my hair!  I heard that I couldn't wash locs regularly.  I thought that my styling options would be limited to a few.

I was wrong, wrong, wrong.  Well, I was right; I can't comb them.  That's one thing I love.  No more long, frustrating detangling sessions.  I can wash my hair as often as I please.  And styling options?  I feel like I don't have enough time to try them all!

I opted specifically for Sisterlocks™ because I liked how the brand was organized.  I found a certified consultant from the Sisterlocks official website who was trained to install them and use the correct method for my hair type.  I also liked that I could learn how to maintain the locs on my own.  I wanted microlocs because I liked having the option of more intricate styling.

I used to hate my hair when it was straightened.  I liked my loose natural hair, and now I LOVE my Sisterlocks™.

Burt's Bees: Natural Toothpaste

We have reviewed a number of dental hygiene products so far, but this one was the most edumacational. LOL!

I actually purchased this from Wal-mart and got a children's version for my son (that story later).  I purchased this goodness at my local Wal-mart and here's how the checkout process went:

Cashier: Is this toothpaste?!

Me: Yes

Cashier: Well, I sure hope it works!  They have some $0.99 toothpaste that works just fine.

And then we laugh.

Canola oil

Not too long ago, I reviewed African Royale Hot Six Oil.  As always, I pay attention to the ingredient list and this time I saw canola oil.  I had been experiencing some skin issues and this oil seemed to calm it all down.  This experience caused me to ponder the ingredients. The top five ingredients were - olive oil, canola oil, wheat germ oil, sweet almond oil and safflower oil respectively.

Having researched and heard of the benefits of some of the others, I was curious about canola oil.  I cook with it from time to time, have read some conflicting opinions about it in the past and now I'm finding it as the second ingredient in a product that seemed to work well for me. So, let's break this down!
