Queen of the Week: Constance aka Connie

E-mail Print PDF

This eclectic Queen was spotted at 'Fro Fashion Week.  She was one of the attendees in the Korporate Kinks workshop and actually won a free 'do on All Tressed Up.  Prior to getting her coils, she was rocking her TWA in a massively cute way with a nice deep red hue and she was rocking a wooden flower on the side.

While twirling the comb, we had some interesting conversation and that is when I learned that this woman is just as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.  And get this...that flower she was rocking originated from a necklace that had actually broken.  Now, that's my type of girl right there!

Let's meet our most recent Queen of the Week - Constance also known as Connie.

Who does your hair?

Right now its just me, myself, and I. My cousin lets me know if its a hit or miss when it comes to styling it.

What are your three favorite products? Why?

  1. Wen Cleansing Conditioner ...My 1st 30 Day supply came in Sweet Mint which scents the whole upstairs when I use it --- My hair feels great when its on and feels great when I rise it out. The light tingle gives me a clean feeling too.
  2. Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Edge Control --- It's great for laying down fly always and makes my afro's that much neater.
  3. Hawaiian Silky Miracle Worker 14 in 1 --- I love how soft this keeps my hair throughout the day. I like it better than just water when refreshing my hair because my fro shrinks less.

Please describe your hair routine.

My routine is to wash about once a week, special treatment comes in when I use too much product trying new styles and that will call for a wash the day after. After using Wen, I towel dry a bit and apply Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel and work it in. If for the rest of the week I'm just puffin it up for work I just sprits water add my 14-1 and work that in. Band it, throw in some crazy flowers and I'm ready to tackle the day. If my edges don't feel like laying down I grab my Edge Control and smooth some on and then add the band. I also use the Edge Control to help with keeping my flat twists neat.

Other than that I'm still on the hunt for cute styles for my short hair. I tried repeating the comb twists that I won with Kenyada, but I have yet to hone in the virtue of patience with myself. They definitely haven't looked like they're supposed to.

What is your favorite quote of the moment?

I have 2. LoL

"Live, Laugh, Love" and "Vision without action is a daydream. Action with without vision is a nightmare." -Japanese Proverb

How does it feel to be selected as the All Tressed Up Queen of the Week?

It feels amazing to be selected as the Queen of the Week. I am TRULY HONORED. I'm also in love with crowns and I consider myself an African Queen and in my dreams it comes with land and a hunk of a King next to me. LOL. This is something I would never imagined to be asked to do and it came from taking a step in a new direction for me and embracing myself and the Hair God gave me...whoda thunk it. :)

Is there anything you would like to promote or share with the world?

"I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are your works; and that my soul knows right well." Psalm 139.14.

I am still learning to LOVE ALL of Me. Don't doubt You. Embrace Yourself and take care of You...but with everything measure...don't let Ego take over. :)

LaVida Given By Nature: Ginger, Juice & Berries Hairdress

Yet another LaVida Given By Nature product that has been put to the test.  The name alone is very intriguing. Let's go in on this one...

Packaging

Unlike the other two products I have reviewed from this line, this particular product does not come in a flip-top bottle.  This is key.  I want to be able to actually use my product and with this one the jar was perfect because of the consistency of the product.   It comes in a jar reminiscent of the good 'ol (not so much) grease jars we grew up using.  Dax immediately comes to mind.  Oh, the memories!  This is sooo not Dax though...!!!  Again her color scheme and graphic design is very professional.  Hands down, the presentation is on point.

Fragrance

Ginger is the first word in the product's name and that is what I got a shot of first and foremost.  Because I am not a huge fan of ginger as a fragrance for my hair, I was a bit torn with this one.  It was certainly not awful, but definitely not as tantalizing as the Tahitian Coconut Body Oil or the Carrot & Castor Oil Conditioning Hair Oil.

The Kitchen

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
