Queen of the Week - Maisha McKinneyMeet our most recent Queen Maisha McKinney.  I can remember having a little dialogue with this beauty when she was contemplating the big chop.  A few months later...she did it!  Well, it's been awhile and take a look at her now!  My, my, my how that hair has grown...Simply beautiful!!!

Who does your hair?

I've always done my own hair even when I was relaxed. I love experimenting with it changing it up by style, color, or both. I BC'd in Aug 2009 and am enjoying learning about my hair all over again.

What are your three favorite products?  Why?

I'm a bit of a product junkie, probably because I'm still on the quest for the perfect regimen. I love Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner by Organic Root Stimulator. ic olive styling gel is also a staple. If I'm pinning my hair up, it's not stiff, doesn't flake, and doesn't dry it out. I also use Cantu Shea Butter in either the dialy moisturizer or leave-in conditioning cream . Oils I like to keep around are olive, shea, coconut, and safflower.

Please describe your hair routine.

Water is my best friend. I spray my hair daily to refresh and create every style. I usually wash it at least once a week. Then I apply whatever my leave in conditioner of choice is at the moment such as Cantu shea butter.

Style wise I usually twist my hair to define my natural curl. I also to pin part of it back and do my own variation of a mo-hawk. Sometimes I will blow it out into a puff for a change. When I do I use Silk Elements Olive Oil heat protection spray.

At night I still sleep with a silk scarf or silk bonnet.

What is your favorite quote of the moment?

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Queen of the Week - Maisha McKinneyHow does it feel to be selected as the All Tressed Up Queen of the Week?

I'm honored to even be thought of. I often find myself online reading up on and watching other naturals throughout their journey. So many have helped me without even knowing it. I only hope sharing a bit of my own experience will help other Queens.

Is there anything you would like to promote or share with the world?

To anyone considering going natural don't be afraid. Some people will support you and some won't understand why you would possibly want to do it. Remember it's YOUR journey and not theirs. Do your research and talk to other naturals. There will be good days and days when you may want to give up. Remember, GOD created us perfect just the way we are. He doesn't make mistakes, our natural hair is BEAUTIFUL. Don't be afraid to embrace it and have fun with it!

My passion lives in the future of my company MaiSkeye Productions. We specialize in all aspects of a production crewing and consulting on various video and film Productions. Jane Carter: Wrap & Roll

Yes, I was excited to use Jane Carter's products!  Here's another one - Jane Carter Wrap and Roll .  After a thorough shampoo and conditioning treatment, I used this products to set my clients' tresses!

I have used a number of mousse products in my day and this has now been added to my list of favorites.  Oftentimes when you use too much mousse, you will get a crusty residue after the hair drys.  I hate that.  So, I put Jane Carter to the test.  I applied a great deal of mousse to my clients' hair.  In some instances the white was pouring out as I rolled the hair.  I was laughing to myself, but I had to do it.  I owe my readers a thorough review, right?

Canola oil

Not too long ago, I reviewed African Royale Hot Six Oil.  As always, I pay attention to the ingredient list and this time I saw canola oil.  I had been experiencing some skin issues and this oil seemed to calm it all down.  This experience caused me to ponder the ingredients. The top five ingredients were - olive oil, canola oil, wheat germ oil, sweet almond oil and safflower oil respectively.

Having researched and heard of the benefits of some of the others, I was curious about canola oil.  I cook with it from time to time, have read some conflicting opinions about it in the past and now I'm finding it as the second ingredient in a product that seemed to work well for me. So, let's break this down!
