This loc'd love-a-licious queen was a virtual find. I must tell you I absolutely LOVE locs; I just can't commit right now. I admire those that have made the commitment and I am always in awe when I see someone sporting them. So, when I spotted this Queen I had to snag an interview. Let's meet Jay.
Who does your hair?
For the most part I do my hair myself but when I can treat myself without a doubt I go to Natural Beauty Salon and Spa
4857-B Finlay Street
Richmond, VA 23231
This salon has a group of very talented professional women who specialize in natural hair including Locs - Twists - Braids – Cornrows as well as Massage and Nail Care Services.
How does it feel to be selected as the All Tressed Up Queen of the Week?
It was a flattering surprise! It was also a little reminder that I am a QUEEN. I think Sistahs sometimes forget how valuable, deserving and worthy we are so thank you All Tressed Up!
What are your three favorite products?
Wow just three… I try not to put anything in my hair or on my body that I couldn’t eat if I had to. So, if I have to limit myself to three my favorite products that I can’t go without are Jojoba oil because it’s a light oil that nourishes my locs without making them fell heavy and greasy; I wash my hair with peppermint or eucalyptus liquid castile soap because I need to know my hair is clean so I love to feel the tingle on my scalp!; And I twist my locs with 100% Aloe Vera Gel….
Please describe your hair routine.
I usually spray my hair every day (especially in the spring and summer) with a refreshing spirtz of distilled water, some aloe vera and an essential oil (like lemongrass and rosemary) and then I brush my hair with a soft bristle brush. I know I am extra but my locs love water and who doesn’t like getting their hair brushed?
Every couple of nights I oil my scalp with jojoba oil or cold pressed olive oil and then I wrap my hair with a scarf.
If it is hair washing time – I give myself an oil treatment with Alma oil - it really softens and conditions the locs, then I was my hair with castile soap, depending on how dirty my hair is I may do extra rinse with a apple cider vinegar, then spritz, twist and go!
What is your favorite quote of the moment?
Feel everything becoming ALRIGHT - I saw the sentence in an AD and never forgot it. It’s a reminder to stay positive and that everything is going to work out the way it’s supposed to.
