The Obsession

Can you spend an hour or more in beauty supply stores?  Do you have multiple subscriptions to or can't help but pick up the latest hair magazine?  Is your 'under the sink' storage area so full that you have a special product area for your impulse purchases?  It's offiicial - you're obsessed.

The Attitude

All Tressed Up is more than the name of a website, it's an attitude.  Ask anyone - when you look good you do for the most part, feel good.  This website gives the everyday woman and/or man the opportunity to share just how wonderful you are!  Are you All Tressed Up today?

Queen of the Week: Joanita Senoga

E-mail Print PDF

This feature is unlike any of the other features that you have seen on All Tressed Up.  There will be no favorite products or 'who does your hair' questions for this one.  I was actually assisting this woman with some computer tasks and decided to check-up on an endeavor in which she is involved.  You see, this woman is a Queen in her own right.

Joanita, founder of Circle of Peace School in Makindye, Uganda, is a woman who truly cares about the future of the children in her homeland.  I remember the day I first learned about what Joanita did outside of the nine-to-five and this story touched my heart deeply.  On this particular day, I decided to inquire about the progress of the school expecting to hear wonderful praise reports about the students.  To the contrary, the report was a tad different:

Queen of the Week - Shana BrownA few weeks ago I attended Felicia Leatherwood's Loving Your Hair with Natural Care Workshop.  The session was moving right along and in walks this queen!  I mean, this woman was All Tressed Up from head to toe.  From her lovely locs to the blouse - EVERYTHING!

The smaller group enabled attendees to actually interact with one another.  Let me tell you, this queen was as beautiful on the outside as on the inside.  You know how you just get that vibe from someone...energy?  Let's meet our radiant Queen...

King of the Week: J. Artel Smith, M.Ed.I'd like to introduce you to our next King.  This brother is a member of our Facebook family and was selected for the celebration of 100 'Likes'.  I was scoping out the FB fam and spotted this King.  Check him out with his fresh line up and locs of perfection.  Would you be able to concentrate in his class? Nothing like it, I tell ya...nothing like it!  Enough of me, let's get to know this man...

Who is your barber and/or loctician?

This is a very interesting question but one I am glad you asked.  I started my locs about four years ago in Richmond, VA with the help of Ms. Anita Hill-Moses who has been a natural hair care specialist for over 20 years.  Anita is also the owner of BAD (Braids & Dreads) Natural Hair Salon. I contribute the health and success of my hair to Anita and her team of top-stylists.

King of the Week: Antoine L. Hicks

It is time.  That's right, folks.  We've got our first KING of the week!!!  This brother posted a few pics and my mouth dropped.  I mean, the line was so sharp it had me wanting to know what type of clippers/razor the barber used.  I don't know about you, but there is not much that compares to a clean brother fresh from the shop.  The shape up was oh so tight.

We tapped this King and he obliged.  Yes! Let's get to know him.

Quick Tip: Turn All Tressed Up blue by clicking on the arrow to the right of the main menu (at the top) and click on blue.

Who is your barber?

William Shanks, but we just call him Shanks. With a name like that I knew he could cut something.

Note: Shanks is located in the D.C. area.  We were unable to reach him, so hit us up Shanks if you're reading this. We'd love to blast your contact info.

Queen of the Week - Lisa L. ManleyIt's that time! I do things in threes, so I selected three of my beloved readers as the King/Queen of the week.  I selected this Queen because of her flowy tresses.  Her hair looks sooooo soft.  I'm not really one for crunchy hair, people!  Thank you, Lisa for being a part of the All Tressed Up family.  Let's meet our beautiful Queen - Lisa.

Who does your hair?

I have styled my own hair for the past five years.

Curls: Milkshake Light Curl Styling Lotion

Curls MilkshakeSo, I check my good mailbox and guess what?!?!  I have a sample of this goodness - Curls Milkshake Light Curl Styling Lotion!  When it comes to styling lotions and milks I have to be extremely careful because I, unlike the majority of folks, have a tree nut allergy.  So yes, high concentrations of shea will not work for me.  Oh how I would love to use the products that contain shea butter - I just can't.  Anywhoo, I'm reading the attached brochure to find that the milk is that of the wonderful coconut!  Yes, the fruit that grows closest to the sun.

Canola oil

Not too long ago, I reviewed African Royale Hot Six Oil.  As always, I pay attention to the ingredient list and this time I saw canola oil.  I had been experiencing some skin issues and this oil seemed to calm it all down.  This experience caused me to ponder the ingredients. The top five ingredients were - olive oil, canola oil, wheat germ oil, sweet almond oil and safflower oil respectively.

Having researched and heard of the benefits of some of the others, I was curious about canola oil.  I cook with it from time to time, have read some conflicting opinions about it in the past and now I'm finding it as the second ingredient in a product that seemed to work well for me. So, let's break this down!
