The Obsession

Can you spend an hour or more in beauty supply stores?  Do you have multiple subscriptions to or can't help but pick up the latest hair magazine?  Is your 'under the sink' storage area so full that you have a special product area for your impulse purchases?  It's offiicial - you're obsessed.

The Attitude

All Tressed Up is more than the name of a website, it's an attitude.  Ask anyone - when you look good you do for the most part, feel good.  This website gives the everyday woman and/or man the opportunity to share just how wonderful you are!  Are you All Tressed Up today?

Back in the Day

As a child, I was always obsessed with hair!  It all started when my mother used to cornrow our hair as children.  I would feel how her fingers were moving as she completed my 'do' and would watch as she was working on my sister's hair.  Needless to say, I figured it out!

I was the kindergarten girl whose mother would always braid her hair, but preferred twists and loose hair instead.  I used my new braiding skills to undo my 'do' on the school bus before arriving to school and would redo my 'do' on the way back home before my mother saw the change. One could usually find me cutting bobs and short styles in my Barbie dolls' hair (or on those Barbie doll-heads).  I did not play!

Well, several years have gone by since Kindergarten and the hair obsession is still in full effect.  Whenever I see a gorgeous cut, style or shape-up I have no shame.  I will stop what I am doing to compliment that person.  This is one of the many concepts that created the vision of All Tressed Up.

Roll those Credits

It's important that you know who you are dealing with.  I am not just a woman that is obsessed with all things hair and beauty.

This is a journey of mine that I have chosen to share with the world.  The more I learn, the more I share.  I love hair!

The Vision

In 2009, I was selected as the feature model for the Essence Makeover Magic Virtual Tool.  This was a beautiful surprise.  Being selected was an honor and very humbling experience, but also served as a platform.  You see, I loved the way it felt to grace the pages of a major magazine and be featured online.  I loved it so much, that I wanted to give other kings and queens the opportunity to experience something similar while simultaneously executing a few other goals:

  • Uplifting small businesses/entrepreneurs (namely salon owners)
  • Uplifting the spirits/self-esteem of random strangers
  • Being able to share my passion for hair and beauty with the world

All Tressed Up enables me to combine all of my loves -  hair, beauty, uplifting, educating and technology - all into one dream delivered.  I am grateful. Selah.

Passionately,

Kenyada J.

Malikah Divine Wholistic Skincare: Berry Beautiful

As the years go by, we as women have to pay a bit more attention to our skin.  Like Ledisi said, I'm going through changes, yall!  The days of super flawless skin is beginning to take a bit of work and a certain level on consciousness.  I have to be mindful of my water intake, the foods I eat and yes..an exercise regimen is heavy on the brain - not happening yet, but on the brain.

Anywhoo, I'm beginning to notice subtle blemishes.  I was told after a skin consultation with the product creator, Malikah Divine, that it was due to dehydration (i.e., I need to drink more water.).  She recommended this product and advised that I refrigerate it and spritz my face each morning.  Let's review...

The Kitchen

Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
We have already discussed Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but what about Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)?  They are NOT the same chemical.  Let's talk about it...

SLS is a harsh detergent that is found in a number of our products and is quite dangerous.  Think about your skin absorbing harsh chemicals in extremely small amounts over time.  It adds up.
