The Obsession

Can you spend an hour or more in beauty supply stores?  Do you have multiple subscriptions to or can't help but pick up the latest hair magazine?  Is your 'under the sink' storage area so full that you have a special product area for your impulse purchases?  It's offiicial - you're obsessed.

The Attitude

All Tressed Up is more than the name of a website, it's an attitude.  Ask anyone - when you look good you do for the most part, feel good.  This website gives the everyday woman and/or man the opportunity to share just how wonderful you are!  Are you All Tressed Up today?

Back in the Day

As a child, I was always obsessed with hair!  It all started when my mother used to cornrow our hair as children.  I would feel how her fingers were moving as she completed my 'do' and would watch as she was working on my sister's hair.  Needless to say, I figured it out!  I was the kindergarten girl whose mother would always braid her hair, but preferred twists and loose hair instead.  I used my new braiding skills to undo my 'do' on the school bus before arriving to school and would redo my 'do' on the way back home before my mother saw the change. One could usually find me cutting bobs and short styles in my Barbie dolls' hair (or on those Barbie doll-heads).  I did not play!

Well, several years have gone by since Kindergarten and the hair obsession is still in full effect.  Whenever I see a gorgeous cut, style or shape-up I have no shame.  I will stop what I am doing to compliment that person.  This is one of the many concepts that created the vision of All Tressed Up.

Roll those Credits

It's important that you know who you are dealing with.  I am not just a woman that is obsessed with all things hair and beauty.  This is a journey of mine that I have chosen to share with the world.  The more I learn, the more I share.  I love hair!

The Vision

In 2009, I was selected as the feature model for the Essence Makeover Magic Virtual Tool.  This was a beautiful surprise.  Being selected was an honor and very humbling experience, but also served as a platform.  You see, I loved the way it felt to grace the pages of a major magazine and be featured online.  I loved it so much, that I wanted to give other kings and queens the opportunity to experience something similar while simultaneously executing a few other goals:

  • Uplifting small businesses/entrepreneurs (namely salon owners)
  • Uplifting the spirits/self-esteem of random strangers
  • Being able to share my passion for hair and beauty with the world

All Tressed Up enables me to combine all of my loves -  hair, beauty, uplifting, educating and technology - all into one dream delivered.  I am grateful. Selah.

Passionately,

After Affects: Natural Handmade Goat's Milk Soap

I have heard a lot about goat's milk for hair and C. Dawn was kind enough to send me some of this goodness in the form of a bar of soap.

Packaging

The soap was labeled with the company brand and shrink-wrapped.  Nice touch.  It's something about small businesses with big business mentality that get me.  The shrink-wrapping was very appropriate for the soap.

Fragrance

Yum.  I could smell it through the plastic.  I had the passion blossom variety.

Functionality

Natural soap makers get me every time.  You can see little pieces of natural goodness throughout.  The ridges in the soap made for better handling, which I most definitely appreciated.  I'm accustomed to using the Trader Joe brand, and it has no ridges.  If you're worried about dropping the soap, she's got you covered.  Nice touch.

Jojoba Oil

Deriving from the seed of the jojoba plant, jojoba oil can be found in a number of natural skin and hair care products.  While it is called jojoba oil, it is actually a wax extracted from the seed of the jojoba plant.  The primary reason why it can be found in many hair and skin products is because of its uncanny molecular resemblance to human sebum.

In order to break down the benefits of jojoba oil, it is important to first define a few key terms:

Sebum: Sebum is the ‘natural oil’ that many in the natural hair community fight long and hard to preserve through the use of sulfate-free shampoo and a host or other hair care practices.  Produced by the sebaceous glands, this natural oil (or wax) is designed to coat and protect the hair (and skin) from damage or drying out.  Because of the natural twists and curves of natural hair, the sebum cannot travel the entire length of the hair shaft resulting in dryer hair and a less brilliant sheen.
