The Obsession

Can you spend an hour or more in beauty supply stores?  Do you have multiple subscriptions to or can't help but pick up the latest hair magazine?  Is your 'under the sink' storage area so full that you have a special product area for your impulse purchases?  It's offiicial - you're obsessed.

The Attitude

All Tressed Up is more than the name of a website, it's an attitude.  Ask anyone - when you look good you do for the most part, feel good.  This website gives the everyday woman and/or man the opportunity to share just how wonderful you are!  Are you All Tressed Up today?

I cannot believe that Stacey has been a part of the team for an entire year!  Wow!  Stacey, our Fitness Boss, has been providing us with monthly wellness articles and is always talking about a triathlon.  Whew!  Go 'head with your bad self, Stacey!

As we celebrate her one year of writing for All Tressed Up, we invite you to join us for our very first wellness challenge entitled, Hydration Challenge.

I have a few clients and some who come in for consultations and I cannot help but notice a dry scalp and hair sharing similar characteristics.  Our bodies are composed of up to sixty percent of water.  That is over half.  Our bodies require water to function properly.

This is a beauty website, so what now?  Well, beauty begins from within.  It's all about what you eat, drink and how you take care of yourself - mind, body and spirit.  It shows (and if you're dong it right - it radiates) on the outside.

The Challenge

We challenge you to drink eight cups of water per day.  Do you think you can handle it?

If you're up for the challenge, follow these steps:

  1. Create an account on Sparkpeople.com.
  2. Join our team page.
  3. Begin tracking your water intake via the Sparkpeople.com website.

The contest begins on August 18, 2011 and end on September 1, 2011. For the first two weeks we will announce one winner who will receive a wellness-inspired gift.  This could be an eco-friendly water bottle, yoga mat or even a gift card to Whole Foods.  These winners would have drank the most water within a week.

On September 1, 2011 we will announce the grand prize winner who would have successfully drank eight cups of water per day consistently or it could be the person who was the most consistent in their water consumption.  The grand prize winner will receive a gift basket of wellness goodies as well as a few beauty goodies.

Happy Blogoversary, Stacey!!!  Thank you for all that you do!

Taliah Waajid: Total Body Black Earth Shampoo

Now, I know you've seen me rant about not using shampoo on my own hair.  I use this product on my clients.  Shampoo and lather is expected when one visits the salon.  If I must shampoo, I prefer to use one that I know works and one that contains less harsh ingredients.  I have had nothing but positive outcomes from this shampoo.  Some of the comments were the hair feels extremely soft (prior to a conditioner being applied), the scalp felt clean and the fragrance is lovely!

I have used this shampoo on two clients - one with extremely dry scalp and another with a diagnosed scalp condition.  Both clients had rave reviews of this shampoo.  I typically use this shampoo along with the Taliah Waajid Enhancing Herbal Conditioner.

Investment: $8.00 USD

Ingredients: Pure Distilled Water, Natural Herbs, Indian Hemp, Olive Oil, Wheat Germ, Yarrow Root, Sodium Laureate Sulfate, Rosemary, African Herbal Complex, Sea Salt, Sage, Silk Protein, Corn Oils, Corn Silk, Vitamin E, Fruit Bio-Flavonoids, Bay Laurel, Cocomide (Coconut Bio-Flavonoid)

The Kitchen

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

This ingredient can be found in many of our hair and skincare products.  Its primary function is to remove dirt, oil and buildup regardless of the surface.  I say this because the same ingredient that we spread on our body surfaces is also used (in higher concentrations of course) in engine degreasers and floor cleaners!  Can you imagine using the same chemical to clean your face/hair to clean your engine?!
