The team has expanded AGAIN!  All Tressed Up will now be providing you with healthy tips to ensure you are not only beautiful on the outside, but also beautiful on the inside.  We consider hair, skin and nails to be the beautiful flowers our body blooms after feeding it with whole nutritious foods.  When we eat the right things and include some form of exercise in our lives beautiful things happen.

Stacey Capers, Fitness BossSpeaking of beautiful, allow me to introduce you to our Fitness Boss - Mrs. Stacey Capers.  Stacey will be writing monthly articles on topics such as fitness, health and nutrition.  We are so excited to have her as a member of the team!

Stacey Capers started an once-in-a-lifetime weight loss journey during the sixth season of NBC’s The Biggest Loser.  Weighing in at 221 pounds, Stacey, alongside her husband Adam were recognized as a force to be reckoned with; however, that strength and determination was seen as a big threat and ultimately resulted in their Week One elimination from the game.  Yet, that did not keep her from reaching her goal of losing 65 pounds, trimming down to a lean and strong 156 pounds in six months.

Having spent her entire adult life at over 200 lbs., Stacey's battle with the scale was constant.  Although an active child and an athlete in high school, as she approached her 30th birthday, Stacey watched the scale creep up to 248 lbs.  A visit to the doctor for an annual check-up and the death of a close high school friend was the wake-up call that she needed to make serious changes.

Since appearing on The Biggest Loser, Stacey launched I Can Do Fitness. Stacey serves a fitness coach, teaching group exercise classes in Northern Virginia. She has also extended her hand to promote wellness and better health by serving as a Wellness Ambassador for The American Diabetes Association of the DC Metro area and has volunteered her time with many other schools and organizations in her community.

When she is not working with clients, she stays close to her finale weight with running, step aerobics, swimming, and strength training. She has completed two half marathons and is a triathlete.  Stacey has started a personal challenge to do “2,010 in 2010”, as she attempts to complete a combined 2,010 miles of running, bicycling, and swimming by the end of 2010. A busy mother of two, Stacey incorporates lots of active family-fun time by going on walks and bike riding.

We are so excited and honored to have Stacey as a member of the All Tressed Up team!  Check out her first article.

Silicones

As I flip through one of my favorite hair magazines carefully reading each page and interview, I couldn't help but notice tips from a certain  hairstylist who will remain anonymous for the purposes of this article.

This particular hairstylist recommended using products with silicone to enhance shine and to protect the hair from heat damage.  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Well...kind of.  You see the truth is that products which contain this chemical polymer do in fact enhance shine, manageability as well as protect the hair from heat damage in a remarkable way.  This stylist knows how to get the job done!

Let's take a moment to think about silicone in general.  Hmmm...some of our kitchen appliances are made from silicone.  These are some of the most heat resistant pans and handle holders of our time.  Do you find a bit of irony in the fact that the same material we use to cook our food is being used to help us cook our hair?  Yes, you read it right.  Truth be told, the main ingredient that you will find in many of those heat-protectants, serums, and frizz control products is in fact silicone.
