Man, oh man am I one blessed sister! The Big Chop Party was a beautiful success! Sponsored by Thank God I'm Natural, this party was one to remember. Guests were pleased with the turnout and were grateful for the dialog. I even spoke to a client of mine who recommended that we record the next event because so many can benefit from the information sharing.
Allow me to provide you with the lovely details.
Meet the Models
We began with three models however due to one's family obligations, we were blessed with two lovely models who agreed to do the Big Chop. Now, these lovely ladies may be familiar to you:
Malaka
Malaka and I worked together (along with Lady Kinnks) to host a Natural Hair Gathering in December. Now, if I'm going to be affiliated with an event I want my fellow hostesses to be All Tressed Up! Malaka did get that wig smoked and that's when I noticed that she was in fact transitioning. A big chop was definitely in her future. After transitioning for 15 months, April 30th was the day she said 'be gone' to those relaxed ends for good.
Camisha
You probably recall seeing a few styles from this beautiful woman. Camisha is the All Tressed Up transitioning model. Well, after several months of transitioning, she had enough of those relaxed ends. Over the course of the transitioning process, she began to notice the behavior of her relaxed hair to become unruly (I know you like that Camisha) - taking too long to dry, tangling for no good reason. It was time!
Our models and guests arrived and after a round of brief introductions, the chopping began!
Chop, Give, Love
Now, this party was not designed for me to do all of the talking. Oh noooooo. While I was chopping, a few questions were posed and as the minutes passed, we took breaks for giveaways. So, the flow was chop, give and love. I chop. We all give valuable information and testimonials. Love was present throughout. Products were available for testing and I am proud to say that most of the products were formulated by a woman entrepreneur. Awareness - we have to get it out there.
Malaka was up first and she has one beautiful head of hair! She had approximately two and one half inches of relaxed ends to diminish. And boy did we! She now rocks a cut layer cut that fits her cute face and allows her curls to do their thang! The goal of the chop was to chop - not style. The photos you'll see of her are fresh from the chopping block. She adorned her 'do with a pretty little bloom from Bloomin' Headz.
Camisha was up next and boy did she have some length to get rid of. Prior to each chop I held the hair so that attendees could clearly see the difference between the relaxed hair and her natural hair. And then...the chopping began! As we continued the process, Camisha even blessed us with her poem - A Letter to My Hair. The timing was perfect because as she was finishing the last portion - I was finishing the final chop. Wow! I love my clients! She too, adorned her 'do with a bloom from Bloomin' Headz.
Both Camisha and Malaka were presented with bracelets courtesy of Embracing Me Naturally, which read 'I Big Chopped'. These bracelets were donated after word got out about the event. Didn't I tell you I was one blessed sister!? Chop, give, love baby...chop, give, love. Each of these new naturals also received their very own Natural Hair Calendar to document their natural hair journey.
Thanking you for your Support
Thank you to those of you who took the time out to RSVP and attend this intimate yet monumental event. Your presence confirmed so much for me personally. I'm looking forward to the next party and you will be the first to know. We may need a new venue because we had that space pretty tight!
Thank you to our sponsor Thank God I'm Natural for providing those signature giveaways. I'm certain our attendees will benefit from the books, shirt and tote you provided. Thank you so much!
Thank you to Embracing Me Naturally for checking out the website and finding out about the event and then going as far as sending bracelets out perfectly matching the occasion.
I would also like to thank two of my clients Ms. Kim and Ms. Angela for donating gourmet chocolate and an exquisite piece of jewelry respectively. Did I mention that I love my clients?!
Thank you to everyone who took on the role as photographer. Life happens, but what is meant to be will be!
Last, but certainly not least my dear mother. She was representing for her daughter! This woman came to get her hair done in the early morning and came back for the party and even brought a runner for the table. That's my mama! I love that woman!!
Beauty Bags
Each attendee received a beauty bag complete with a bloom from Bloomin' Headz, Satin Blends Whipped Body Cream (favor size), cinnamon dusted almonds, and a homemade cupcake from Kings Bakery.
Until next time...
